Birds and Animals or Child’s Natural History by Henry Davenport Northrop, is full of beautiful engravings. The engravings are very realistic, in the image of the animal being described in the book, or as true to what was known of extinct animals, in 1898!
The color images are beautiful, but I could find nothing explaining them. The book is long and wordy, close to 250 pages, and of course is written in the language of the day.
Please take the images for what they are, lovely old vintage images of animals we have today, but from the standpoint of Mr. Northrop, over 100 years ago.
There are only a few of these color images, and they are very whimsical, cleaned and restored to rich color.
All prints are ready for matting with your own pre-cut mat, having either an 8 x 10 or a 5 x 7 inch opening.
Printed illustrations are on a 8 ½ x 11 inch archival linen paper, acid and lignin free.
